Getting Started

  1. Add an item from the left toolbar.
  2. Click an object to select it.
  3. Use the right inspector to change its appearance.
  4. Drag objects on the canvas to position them.
  5. Use corner handles to resize and the rotation handle to rotate.

Touch Controls

Install Bubble Maker

On iPhone or iPad, you can add Bubble Maker to your Home Screen for a more app-like experience.

  1. Open Bubble Maker in Safari.
  2. Tap the Share button.
  3. Choose Add to Home Screen.
  4. Tap Add.

Pages

Use the Pages tray under the canvas to letter a multi-page comic in one project.

  • Import page images or a PDF from the + menu, or choose a PDF from Reference. Each image or PDF page becomes its own Bubble Maker page, and the Pages bar opens if it was hidden.
  • Click a page to switch, or press Left and Right to move through pages. Lettering stays on that page.
  • Drag a thumbnail to rearrange pages, or use the arrows. Press Escape to cancel a drag.
  • Add a blank page, duplicate, or delete from the page bar. A project always keeps at least one page.
  • Use the Pages tab in the center of the bar to hide or show the Pages tray.
  • Copy and paste lettering between pages from the right-click menu or keyboard shortcuts.
  • Canvas settings include page numbers and safe/bleed guides. Page numbers use the same options as PDF export and appear on the artboard while you work.
  • Export the current page as one file. Selected or all pages download as a PNG/SVG ZIP, or as one PDF. Files follow the page bar order.

Comic Preview

Preview your multi-page project as an open comic book. Page 1 starts on the right. Later pages appear as two-page spreads (2–3, 4–5, and so on). Use Previous/Next, keyboard arrows, or swipe to move between spreads. Drag from a page edge to turn it by hand.

Selecting and moving

  • Click an object to select it.
  • Drag a selected object to move it.
  • Shift-click to select more than one object.
  • On a touchscreen, touch and hold an object to open the same menu as right-click.
  • Drag on empty canvas to box-select multiple objects. Highlighted objects preview the selection before you release. Hold Shift to add to the current selection.
  • Drag a multi-selection to move everything together.

Resize and rotate

  • Drag a corner handle to resize or scale. Double-click a handle on a bubble, caption, or text box to shrink the box around the text without moving the lettering.
  • Drag the rotation handle above the selection to rotate. Double-click it to reset rotation.
  • For a single object, hold Shift while resizing to keep proportions. A multi-selection always scales proportionally.

Right-click menu

Right-click the canvas or a selected object for:

  • Copy, Paste, Duplicate, Delete
  • Copy Style, Paste Style
  • Lock / Unlock
  • Align / Distribute
  • Bring Forward, Send Backward
  • Bring to Front, Send to Back

Copy & Paste Style

Right-click an object and choose Copy Style to copy its appearance without copying its content or position. Use Paste Style on another compatible object to apply the look. Style copying also works across pages and with compatible multi-selections.

Shortcuts: /Ctrl+Shift+C copies the style, and /Ctrl+Shift+V pastes it. These shortcuts are skipped while you are editing text.

Text editing

  • Double-click a bubble, caption, text box, or SFX object to edit its text. Shapes have no text.
  • Speech, thought, shout, caption, and text boxes support Bold, Italic, Underline, and case tools.
  • Text boxes also have Line Spacing, Letter Spacing, Vertical Alignment, and Rotation in the inspector. Captions include style presets.
  • SFX uses plain lettering rather than rich text.
  • Choose fonts from the visual font picker. Search by name, and browse Bubble Maker Fonts, System Fonts, and Imported Fonts.
  • Bubble Maker includes a bundled comic font library. You can also import custom fonts from the inspector. Imported fonts stay on this device.

Reference images

You can place a comic page, screenshot, or other artwork on the canvas background as a visual guide, then letter over it.

  1. Click Reference in the bottom bar, next to the canvas size.
  2. Choose a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF from your device. A PDF is imported as one Bubble Maker page per PDF page, and the Pages bar is shown if it was hidden.
  3. The image sits behind your bubbles and lettering. It is not a selectable object, so you can still click and drag Bubble Maker objects on top of it.

After an image is added, click Reference again to open its settings:

  • Show or hide the image, and fade it with opacity.
  • Fit the whole image in the artboard, fill the artboard (cropping if needed), or use the image’s actual pixel size.
  • Match Artboard to Image resizes the canvas to the image. Existing artwork positions are not scaled.
  • Replace or remove the image at any time.

The reference image stays on this device and is saved with your .bubblemaker project. It is excluded from export by default unless you enable Page Artwork in the export options.

Projects

  • Bubble Maker autosaves the current project locally in this browser.
  • Export a .bubblemaker project file to keep a copy on your device.
  • Import a project file later to continue working.

Export

Choose pages first, then format and include options.

  • PNG is an image. SVG is vector artwork. PDF is a complete page or comic document.
  • Current Page downloads one PNG, SVG, or one-page PDF.
  • Selected Pages downloads a ZIP of PNG/SVG files, or one PDF of the pages you check. Files follow the page bar order, not the order you clicked.
  • All Pages downloads a ZIP of PNG/SVG files, or one PDF of the full project in page bar order.
  • PDF is never zipped — the point is one finished comic file.
  • Selected objects and individual-object files always export from the current page only. Individual objects are PNG/SVG only.
  • Turn on Page Artwork to include imported comic page art. Leave it off for lettering-only files.
  • Safe area and bleed guides in Canvas are editor-only and never appear in export or Comic Preview.
  • Document Info (Title, Creator, Description) is saved with the project and written into the PDF’s document properties. Bubble Maker does not fill these in for you.
  • PDF Filename can be edited. The .pdf extension is added automatically, and characters that cannot be used in filenames are cleaned up.
  • Optional page numbers can be turned on in Canvas or Export. Both places share the same settings, and the number is shown on the artboard while you work. PDF export prints that number once as a text overlay — it is not baked into the page image, so it will not appear twice. PNG, SVG, and Comic Preview stay unnumbered. Start Page and End Page choose which pages get numbers. Start Number is printed on Start Page, then counting continues through End Page. Pages outside that range stay unnumbered. The export preview shows the number the previewed page will print, or none if that page is outside the range.
  • All Pages and Selected Pages (when more than one page is included) show thumbnails under the preview. Click a thumbnail to preview that page.
  • Export format, quality, page size, and page-number options are remembered in this browser. Selected-page checkboxes start fresh each time.

Keyboard Shortcuts
